A Brief introduction to National Disaster Relief National Disaster Relief (NDR) is a 501c(3) nonprofit that is dedicated to feeding the hungry and assisting all distressed individuals in disasters and non-disaster times. NDR currently moves 1.5 million pounds of product an is involved in another 2 million pounds. at this time NDR’s limiting factor is warehouse space. NDR anticipates capability in direct and indirect involvement of an additional 2+ million pounds of product if warehouse space is available. NDR’s revenue model as a 501(c)3 nonprofit is primarily fund raising and donations however there is an additional revenue stream that is unique to NDR as a nonprofit. NDR has approval from the IRS and relevant state and federal authorities to transport nationally for profit as long as those profits offset nonprofit activities. The later spreadsheets included in this report reflect an offsetting income model allowing NDR to service other nonprofits for profit to NDR as well as private industry. It is therefore required to analyse NDR’s position as a profitable venture.(partially) Mission Statement Our purpose is to help meet the basic needs in peoples lives by distributing humanitarian assistance and relief such as food, clothing and medical supplies. To promote, support and conduct educational programs for self sufficiency in fields such as: food preparation, nutrition, personal hygiene, health care, building, supporting and operating facilities, warehousing, feeding centers, and educational facilities, assisting in the procurement of adequate housing, through training and guiding to other operating and supporting agencies, and we believe by doing this we can make the difference in the lives of people who with support and training can achieve a better way of life and a greater degree of self sufficiency. In turn we can attempt to end hunger. Assistance is always giving regardless of race, religion, or nationality. NDR has offices in Florida and Maine Covering the Eastern region of the United States. Though people affected by disasters do not consider any disaster as minor, NDR has worked and continues to work on disasters as major as 911 and Katrina and as small as County wide floods. NDR has affiliations with and, works with dozens of organizations such as: · Red Cross, FEMA, · State MIMA, · National Emergency Response Team (NERT), · SAVE Virtues, · Operation Blessing, · Feed the Children, · Catholic Charities, · Partnership for Economic Development, · County Emergency Management Services. · NDR works with government, private agencies, charities and, private industry. NDR and Disasters NDR concentrates on the three “R’s” of Disasters. These are: 1. Disaster Readiness, 2. Disaster Response and, 3. Disaster Recovery Disaster Readiness They say the two things that are inevitable are death and taxes! Well, add a third item to that list. Though it will not happen to everyone, it assuredly will happen. No one can prevent disasters so preparedness is important. NDR is in part a preparatory agency. NDR identifies areas of concern and develops strategies, policies, and infrastructures of preparedness. NDR then takes these strategies and implements them. Disaster Response Once a disaster occurs, NDR joins forces and coordinates with many State, Federal, and Local governments and many more private & charitable agencies, as well as Corporations. NDR works on disaster site and remotely with food, clothing, medical supplies, and survivor support & management. NDR works as a transportation partner moving supplies into the disaster area and to the appropriate locations. It next begins the process of client management. During the Civil War, long, bulky federal documents were folded into three sections. The documents were then bound together with narrow red ribbon before being shipped off. The recipient then had to cut and remove the ribbons before reading the document. Since the words "tape" and "ribbon" had much the same meaning in the 1800s, the process became known as "cutting the red tape." The term lives on today to describe any needles, time-consuming bureaucratic exercise that delays getting the real job done. As one can imagine, in a disaster there is much confusion, limited information (or availability) and precautionary “Red Tape” NDR cuts through the red tape! This service identifies the needs of the people right down to the individual and guides them through the myriad of agencies, services and red tape to insure they are first and foremost healthy and stable then what they need to do in Recovery to get their lives back to normal. Disaster Recovery The very definition of a disaster is “An occurrence causing widespread destruction and distress” however each individual has immediate needs, and long term rebuilding that must be taken care of. Sure, work must be done on rebuilding infrastructure but what good is infrastructure if the individual does not stay and rebuild as part of that community? That answer lies in every Ghost Town in the west that lies unattended and rotting away today. NDR assists individuals to stay. NDR continues to work with the individuals making sure their homes are rebuilt, their children are cared for, they have food to eat, and water to shower with. |
